What If A Student Gets A Merit Award Scholarship?

Students who receive partial scholarships, grants or other types of tuition assistance - including Michigan Merit Award Scholarships or faculty/employee benefits paid by a public institution - may not need all of the educational benefits provided under the MET contract. Their college or university will invoice MET for the credit hours they enroll for, and either refund or apply any excess amount toward room and board.

What If A MET Contract Holder Decides Not To Attend College?

When a student reaches 18 years of age or receives a high school diploma, he or she can transfer their MET contract to an immediate family member or terminate the contract for a refund. Students also have 15 academic years from the expected high school graduation year to use their MET contract.
